Refunds
Broken, missing or not as described: refunded, no argument. Changed your mind after downloading: usually not, and here is exactly why.
1. The short version
If an asset is broken, missing, or materially different from what the product page said, you get your money back. Tell us what went wrong and the refund is processed — there is no argument to be had about that.
If you bought it, downloaded it, and simply decided you did not want it, we are not obliged to refund and usually will not. The reason is set out below, and it is not an arbitrary policy: it is the specific rule that lets digital goods be sold at all.
2. Why the 14-day cooling-off period does not apply
Under EU consumer law you normally have 14 days to withdraw from a distance purchase for any reason at all. There is one deliberate exception, and digital content delivered immediately is it — because a file, once downloaded, cannot be handed back. You keep it whether or not you are refunded.
That exception only applies if you were told about it and agreed to it before delivery started. You are, at checkout: there is a box confirming that you want the download immediately and that you understand this ends your right to withdraw. Ticking it is what starts the download.
If you would rather keep the 14-day right, do not tick the box — but then delivery waits until the period ends, which for a store whose entire product is an immediate download makes the purchase pointless. Almost everybody ticks it, and that is fine; the point is that it is a choice you made knowingly rather than one made for you.
None of this affects your rights when something is actually wrong. Those rights cannot be waived by any box on any checkout, and are set out next.
3. When you get a refund
In each of these cases, ask and it is refunded in full:
- The download never arrived, or the link never worked, and we could not get you the files.
- The archive is corrupt, or a file inside it will not open in the software it is advertised for.
- A format, texture map or resolution the product page promised is not in the download.
- The asset is materially different from the renders and specifications shown — not a matter of taste, but of the thing not being what was described.
- You were charged twice for the same item, or charged after a failed checkout.
We would rather fix the file than take the money back — most of these are a re-export and a fresh link — but that is your choice, not ours.
4. When you do not
- You changed your mind after downloading, having waived the withdrawal right at checkout.
- The asset is not suitable for your project, where the product page described it accurately. Every listing carries renders, a specification table and, where one exists, a 3D preview you can turn over before buying — use them.
- Your engine, renderer or pipeline needs something the listing never claimed, such as rigging, animation, LODs or a format not listed.
- The polygon count, texture resolution or file size is what the product page stated but not what you hoped.
- You bought a pack and wanted only part of it. Pack pricing exists because it is priced as a set.
If you are unsure whether an asset will work for you, ask before buying. That question gets an honest answer, including when the answer is that it will not.
5. How to ask
Email hello@darksteady.com with the order number from your receipt and one line on what went wrong. A screenshot or the error message helps but is not required.
Requests are answered within two working days. This is a one-person operation, so it is a person reading it, not a queue.
Because Lemon Squeezy, LLC is the merchant of record, the money is returned by them, to the original payment method. It typically lands within 5–10 working days depending on your bank. You may also raise a request directly with Lemon Squeezy, LLC using the link on your receipt — either route reaches the same place.
6. The free asset
There is nothing to refund on a free download, but the same fixing applies: if the free asset of the month is broken, tell us and it gets fixed for everyone.
7. Chargebacks
If something is wrong, email first. A chargeback raised without contact costs us a fee on top of the refund and takes weeks longer for you than simply asking would have.
We do not withdraw licences over a chargeback that turns out to be a mistake. We do decline further sales to accounts that make a habit of it.
